There are so many baby formulas out there. I’m pregnant with my firstborn. How do you choose a formula or does the hospital do it for you? Also, I see that there are tons of generic formulas, such as Walmart Brand or CVS Brand, do you think those are really the same?
When we were in the hospital and made the choice to formula feed our son the nurse went through the different brands with us and suggested some of the generic brands that were best. I’d just talk to your doctor and see what he suggests! They’ll know all about the different brands supplied in your area!
How to pick what baby formula to use?
my baby milk snake hatchling it wont eat i gave it the smallest pinkie i could find any sugestoins?
i just got a baby milk snake "a hatchling" and it won’t eat i even gave it the smallest pinkie i could find. any suggestoins on what to fead it?
Has your snake shed already? Many snakes don’t become hungry until after their first shed. Also, if your snake is new, it may be still adapting to its surroundings (and won’t want to feed until it feels comfortable where it is.)
In addition to the tricks listed above, you might also want to try rubbing a lizard against the pinky mouse to "scent" it- some snakes will not instinctively recognize the rodent as food, and presenting the mouse with a stronger scent may be enough to trigger the snake’s feeding response.
how many days does it take to dry up ur milk after weaning your baby?
i have been having engorged nipples after weaning my baby 10 days back. i havnt tried pumping out cause it may keep the milk flowing. is it ok?
2-3 weeks maximum. dont pump as it will keep the milk flow running..
How will I make my baby sleep during night time?
My baby is 2 months old and they say their sleeping pattern should be better now but i haven’t had a good nights sleep because she’s awake. She sleeps during the day and when it hits around 12 am she doesnt sleep. She gets sleepy and she does fall asleep but like after 10, 15 minutes, she wakes up. Its really tiring me out. No matter how much I swaddle her she doesnt sleep. How do I make her sleep?
We used the book "Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Baby", by Marc Weissbluth. It was a godsend! It helped us establish nighttime sleep habits, as well as a nap schedule for the day. Lots of information, but an easy read.
How do you know what baby products are safe?
I’m expecting my first baby (in 5 days!) and already have everything we need. But there are a few products we got as gifts (or i bought without thinking about it). We got the Little Noses survival kit that comes with saline drops and oral gel…has anyone used these products or know anything about them?
Also what items would you suggest and what items would you not suggest and why?
Congratulations and I hope you have a very safe and memorable birth experience. I think it is great that you are taking the time to think about what you allow to come into contact with your child.
Unfortunately, there are many ingredients in products (baby, skincare, etc.) that contain chemicals that are not healthy. It is prudent to be careful.
If you have a question, don’t hesitate to jump on the internet and research the ingredients. You can look at the sites below.
One discusses the benefits of natural baby products and the other is a database that breaks down what is in over 42,000 products in the marketplace.
How can I sterilize agar media in babyfood jars without an autoclave or pressure cooker?
I want to sterilize jars for tissue culture but do not have an autoclave or pressure cooker. Can I just put the jars closed tightly inside of a pot and then put this inside of a big soup pot (sort of like a dutch oven) with boiling water and a top? What else would work? Thank you for your help!!!
Unless they are making babyfood jars with non-metallic caps, I wouldn’t put them in a microwave. Boiling water will work only for acidic media, not agar.
I’d suggest haunting thrift stores and flea markets to find a pressure cooker. They are not all that expensive (especially compared to the price of agar) and are very handy for cooking and canning.
How do you make your babyfood?
I have org. carrots and sweet potato..Obviously I will put them in the food processor to puree them…. But what do you add to make it smooth? My dr. told me breastmilk…I want to freze the food into cubes…Can I add the breastmilk then freeze them, or am I suppose to add the breastmilk at each feeding once the cubes have thawed? What did you do? Do you know of any online recipes…Thanks.
(if I add the breastmilk to the sweet potato and carrots before freezing will the breastmilk be safe after it thaws)
Yup, www.wholesomebabyfoods.com is the website to go to. Yes, my ped told me that FRESH breastmilk added to food and then frozen will be safe when thawed. What is NOT SAFE is frozen breastmilk, thawed, added to food and then frozen again.
Personally for me (being paranoid), I freeze them into cubes and add my breastmilk/formula only when I’m about to feed baby.
When do you start feeding baby, food?
My daughter in law came home from a friend of hers, with baby food and started feeding her baby (31/2months) a jar of carrots. I say she should have discussed it with the doctor first. I thought you start out feeding cereal first, fruit and then vegetables, But its been a long time since i had a baby and a lot has changed. Can anyone give us advice?
They say to start feeding babies no sooner than 4 months. From what I understand, you can start a baby on solids anywhere from 4-6 months of age. Many argue not to start before 6 months, but if you start at 4 months, that’s really okay, and doctors won’t really argue with you to wait.
Typically you start baby out on cereal first. It’s sort of the introduction to food for them. The first few feedings, you’re suppose to make the cereal pretty runny, and then gradually bring it to a normal consistency. After they get use to cereal (maybe just 1 feeding a day) you can decide when to start adding other foods.
My mom said that with all 5 of us kids, she did the cereal, fruit, and vegetables in that same order you listed. I hear people say nowadays that it’s veggies before fruit. However, nowadays when you go to the store for baby food, you will see the baby food jars seperated into different stages. Stage 1 and stage 2. Stage 1 is for babies of 4 months of age. From what I remember, it was mainly vegetables, but there was stage 1 applesauce and I think stage 1 prunes. But like I said, I noticed more vegetables. Stage 2 is for babies who are 6 months old and older. Stage 2 had a widder variety of vegetables and fruits, and it got into the meat and rice baby food . . .
So, maybe nowadays "experts" aren’t so fixed on a set order (fruit first, veggies next, etc.) . . . It seemed kind of mixed around to me.
My son is 4 months old and I occassionally feed him baby oatmeal. I decided to not start him on regular solids until he turns at least 5 months old.
My mom had 5 kids. She breastfed for 7-8 months, started us on solids at 3 months, and had us on cows milk at 7-8 months. We are all strong, fit, healthy young adults. Will I do the same thing with my son, that my mom did with me? Probably not. I don’t really criticise moms how they choose to feed. Every mom does their own thing. It’s not my kid, so it’s not my responsibility.
Is darkening of complexion is the symptom that baby is not getting nutrition ?
My 5 month doesn’t take breastfeed properly now. I tried giving her bottle but she refuses it too. I have started giving little bit of top feed. she has darkened considerably in last 2 months. Does it indicate lack of nutrition?
could be the color of the baby. if you are concerned, see the pediatrician.
What is the ideal room temperature for a newborn baby?
What is the ideal room temperature for a newborn baby? Consider the baby is wearing a diaper, onesie, and a sleeper footsie (blankets *not* recommended because of risk of suffocation). Please let me know, as we are having a thermostat war!!!! Thanks!
Pick the temp that you are comfy at. Babies are usually a little more hot natured that adults (higher fat). Most people have babies sweating all of the time.
