I can’t really remember from my first son… but my 2nd son is 4 1/2 months old and he weighs 18 pounds. He’s started waking up to eat more at night so we just started feeding him rice cereal at night before bed.
At what age did you start feeding your baby cereal?
When did you introduce a 2nd meal in the day?
How old was your baby when he/she was eating 3 meals a day?
Also, when did you first introduce the fruits and veggies?
Thanks so much!
At what age did you start feeding your baby cereal?
We started at 4 months when our Ped gave us the go ahead. While the new rules and guidelines say 6 months, we trust our Pediatrician. Our son tried cereal and was not really interested, so we decided to kinda skip it. We used squash. He loved it! I did mix his homemade foods with cereal to thicken them up. He did not care for the runny stuff.
When did you introduce a 2nd meal in the day?
Around 6 months. We went out of town and left him with his Nana (who works for WIC mind you). She fed him 3 meals a day while we were gone plus some snacks. I was not willing to feed him so much each day. I just started feeding 2 smaller meals at that point.
How old was your baby when he/she was eating 3 meals a day?
We just started 3 meals at 9 months. He is eating a lot more now, but I attribute some of that to all the energy he burns crawling! He is a mover now
Also, when did you first introduce the fruits and veggies?
We did veggies first and then fruits. He will eat anything! Especially anything he can self feed. We just started giving meats at 8 months. He had 8 teeth by then, so he was more than ready in my opinion.
He still has about 1 – 2 bottles of formula while I am at work, plus nurses quite a bit when I am home, so I know he is getting plenty of the nutrients he needs from that. My son has never had any issues with gas or tummy pains from foods.
I am a big believer in going with your gut. My son was grabbing food from my plate, chewing with me, had 2 teeth, and more than doubled his weight at 4 months, so I was fine with giving real food at that point. I think it is more when your child shows you he is ready. I have a friend whose baby is 2 weeks older than my son who has no interest in food, so they just do one meal a day. Every child is different!

that’s a lot of questions that i don’t really remember all those details of… but generally, we started our kids on baby cereal once a day between 4-5 months. once that started going very well, a few weeks later, we started adding a little pureed table food, or a small jar of baby food, that we fed to our babies during the family dinner meal at the table. we had them on 3 meals a day… i am guessing… between 10-12 months. my kids were breastfed through 1 year so they had that between meals as well.

I started when he was about 4.5 months but his belly got upset from it. I then waited and started again just after five months. I did oatmeal because the rice constipates him too much. Now he is almost 6 months (17 pounds) and he eats 1 small jar of fruit in the morning, 1 small jar of veggies at dinner and 2 tablespoons of oatmeal before bed. He also takes about 30 oz of formula a day. It sounds like a lot! But he is a big kid! We just started the fruits and veggies a week ago.

I fed my daughter baby cereal at 5months
I introduced a 2nd meal in the day when I fed her cereal. She would get a bottle in the am, late am, noonish, afternoon, evening & night…. then she’d get a 2 tbsp cereal mixed with BM after her evening bottle.
I introduced fruits and veggies when she was 6months. She ate a bottle in the am, then fruit mixed with cereal, then a noon bottle, afternoon bottle, veggie mixed with cereal, evening bottle and a night bottle.
She now is 8 months old and takes a bottle in the am, fruit with cereal, bottle at 10am, yogurt around noon, bottle around 2pm, veggie with cereal around 4pm, bottle around 7pm.
She started Cheese and Yogurt at 7months
We will start meats at 9 months

but i think that a baby should atleast be 6 months old to eat solids.

Around 6 months, depending upon how hungry the babies were. I had one who would have breast-fed for ever …. I encouraged him to eat solids at about 7 months, but he was growing and developing well, so there wasn’t any hurry.
Another one had been watching us eat at the table for weeks and at 6 months wanted our food and she wanted it NOW!
Babies are all different, but I would say around 5 – 6 months, and by 9 months they were on 3 meals a day.
I started mine on vegetables, then some cereals, then fruits, cheese, yogurt and cottage cheese.
I didn’t buy jars of baby food, because when you start solids at 6 – 8 months your baby can eat table foods as long as you mash the food with a fork, they are fine.

My daughter is 6 months old and has not started solids yet. She wakes every 3 hours to nurse during the night, and also nurses every 3 hours all day.
