I’m trying to switch my 4 1/2 month old baby from breastmilk to formula. Is there one that tastes good? I’ve tried the powder form of enfamil and it smelled so bad I almost gagged. Needless to say, the baby wouldn’t touch it, even when I mixed it with breastmilk. Is it just the powder form that is so bad? Somebody please tell me there is a formula that doesn’t taste so nasty!

The pre-mixed stuff smells worse. They don’t have taste buds like we do. I had the same reaction when I switched, but the baby doesn’t know the difference. I used Parents choice from Wal-Mart. I compare the vitamins and minerals and ingredients and found that they were the same, very close or better than those expensive brands. Try to get the formula warm like your milk, not hot. Make sure you follow the directions on mixing. I found that my son even liked the formula in cool water once the weather got warm, but not all babies are like that. I found the formula dissolved better in cool water. Weird, huh? BTW, I got a lot of flack from people when I switched. Different moms have to stop breast-feeding for different reasons at different times. Don’t let anyone make you feel guilty about your decisions. That’s YOUR baby.

My baby doest alway eat all her formula sometimes. The package says to throw any un-eaten away after 1 hour. Is that really needed? It seems perfectly fine and such a waste. Cant i put it in the fridge and warm it up again?
I breast feed and give formula since a illness that I had early on forced my milk supply to decrease. I can not know how much she will need to eat at a time, so I make only 2 or 4 ounces at a sitting. Sometimes she only leaves 1 or 2 ounces in the bottle. Sometimes none at all. I dont heat the formula I use room temperature filtered water. I would of course put it imediatly in the fridge, and I would NEVER leave it out for hours. I am a freak about cleanliness. Its just she is on the Alumentium and its 24$ a 16 oz can its darn expensive stuff.

The reason that the package says that, it because of liability reasons. People have left the product out on the table for HOURS, making it bad and then making babies sick. (Yes, you can place it in the fridge and warm it up again….place it in the fridge asap. I honestly don’t recommend using it past a day (meaning, don’t make up large batches ahead of time). ) Another thing to think about, make a smaller batch. And, make up another 1/2 or 1/4 if needed/wanted. I don’t think people ever think about this, and end up throwing massive amounts of product away. Its how they make the consumer use up more product. Sneakie, huh?

I am trying to figure out which baby formula is better for my baby, because every one has WIC and is on good start, I wanna know what u think and why?

I think it depends on your baby. My daughter is on Similac Advance and has done wonderfully on it. She is growing like a little weed, has a small amount of gas only occasionally, and rarely spits up.

With my son, I tried several formulas and he spit up TONS with all of them, switched to soy per doc’s advice, didn’t help.

I have friend’s with kids and everyone has their own opinion. I think you pretty much just have to try one and hope it works for your baby and if it doesn’t talk to your doctor about the best way to switch formula while causing the least amount of discomfort to your baby

Also, I see that there are tons of generic formulas, such as Walmart Brand or CVS Brand, do you think those are really the same?

When we were in the hospital and made the choice to formula feed our son the nurse went through the different brands with us and suggested some of the generic brands that were best. I’d just talk to your doctor and see what he suggests! They’ll know all about the different brands supplied in your area!

Pre treat the stains with Fantastick, Shout, etc… for about 30 to 60 minutes. Wash normally and toss in some Oxy Clean. It’ll work every time.
I think Enfamil is good. Generic brands do have all the same ingredients as name brands but there is a difference. And formula does taste bad. I haven’t really had experience with a lot of different brands but my pediatrician said they were all the same like colgate verses crest.

Organics don’t know. Just wanted to give my two sense about generic and name brand. Generics: the powder is clumpy, they leave a oily residue and they are yellow in color when mixed. Brand name: the powder is very fine and when they are mixed the color is white. No oily residue. I wouldn’t buy generic again….

i recently had a baby shower and i got a can of each formulas nestle good start similac and enfimil. ( i’m formula feeding) is it safe to use a can(enfimil) and when its done move on to(similac) then the other brand (nestle good start) then continue with nestle good start for the rest of all feedings? i don’t want to throw the cans out they must have been expensive. none of the girls can return their purchases.

switching between brands shouldn’t be a problem. you will just have to make sure its the same kind of formula (reg, soy, lactose free). You may want to use the GoodStart one & keep the others on hand in case the baby doesn’t tolerate it well. If you don’t need them, try taking them to the grocery store (not walmart or target) and exchanging them. When I had to change formulas, our local grocery store (Publix) was much easier to deal with than walmart. walmart refused to exchange it. Publix did. If you can’t exchange them at the store, check with a local charity to see if they have any they would trade (or just donate the ones you have) or just check around with friends to see if anyone has any to trade. You could also try a WIC office.

Good Luck with everything!

Do you keep many bottles in the room temperature at night and warm it with a bottle warmer?
Or you go get cold prepared bottle from refrigerator and warm it?

Is there an efficient way to do bottle feeding at night and when to go out.

The reason I’m asking this because on the label says formula that baby didn’t finish has to be thrown away after 1 hour.

Thank’s in advance for any appropriate advice.

The way that I do it is to buy the divided containers in the baby section at WalMart, scoop out the appropriate amount of powder into each section, leave some premeasured bottles of wate rout ont he counter, and when the baby wakes up just mix and serve. As for warming it up, you only need to do that if your baby refuses to drink formula at room temperature. There’s no legit reason for fomula to be served warm, so I say save yourself a step in the middle of the night. It’s also convenient for when you travel because you have everything handy and it only takes a minute or less to fix everything. You don’t have to worry about spoiling any or wasting it. Hope that helps.

You may have to try several formulas. Every child is different. Some have very sensitive digestive tracts and the formula may just be making it worse. The amt he spits up is also important. If it is just a small amount it is really nothing to worry about. But if it is alot he may have reflux talk to the Dr
