I found one but it said to use…babyfood? why? dunno…but it didn’t say to steam anything and Krystal’s is all about the awesomeness of steam. plus they told me to put ketchup on it and ….that’s like complete and utter blasphemy. So…if anyone has any hints, tips, recipes etc. I’m begging you to hand ‘em over!
whats the deal with the baby food? There’s gotta be an alternative/substitute. Just seems….odd.

Honestly, you NEED the baby food for it to taste right, just leave out the Ketchup, use mustard, and tangy garlic dill pickle slices

My son will be turning 1 in May…how the time flies!

Of course I am excited to start planning this event even though it is not for a few months. However, the one thing I am worried about is the cake.

Everyone has pictures of themselves or their children as babies covered in frosting and chunks of cake, and I do not want to cut out that tradition. However, since my little one has had only formula and babyfood, all the sugars and "fake" incredients in the cake make me nervous. Most importantly, I don’t want him to get sick of off the sudden sugar intake, or anything else like the eggs or regular milk.

Does anyone have any recipes for "baby friendly" cakes? Maybe natural ingredients or better alternatives?

Thank you!!!

Your son will not have one idea that it is his first birthday. Don’t overdo it, he won’t remember it and too much will cause confusion and fussiness. A simple cupcake for him to mash his fingers in and play with and take a few pictures is sufficient. Save the big cake and party until age 3 or 4.

Hello! I want to feed my baby homemade baby food when he is ready for solids, I have discussed it with my doctor at his last check up and he thinks it would be a great idea, especially if I use organic vegies and fruits for him but I forgot to ask about his cereal. I know how to make regular rice cereal, you just grind rice and boil it with water enough to make it the right consistency but I was wondering if you could use brown rice since it is healthier? Does anyone know or know of any good websites with babyfood tips and recipes? Thanks!!
lol, thanks L…I didnt know you could buy already made brown rice cereal for babies, I will keep my eye out for them!

If you want to make it, than make it! I tend to like the ready-made stuff because its not so time consuming. Beach Nut has brown rice cereals(with fruit too)
I did find a webpage with a recipe on making and storing home made brown rice cereal that I thought was helpful:

I have org. carrots and sweet potato..Obviously I will put them in the food processor to puree them…. But what do you add to make it smooth? My dr. told me breastmilk…I want to freze the food into cubes…Can I add the breastmilk then freeze them, or am I suppose to add the breastmilk at each feeding once the cubes have thawed? What did you do? Do you know of any online recipes…Thanks.

(if I add the breastmilk to the sweet potato and carrots before freezing will the breastmilk be safe after it thaws)

Yup, www.wholesomebabyfoods.com is the website to go to. Yes, my ped told me that FRESH breastmilk added to food and then frozen will be safe when thawed. What is NOT SAFE is frozen breastmilk, thawed, added to food and then frozen again.

Personally for me (being paranoid), I freeze them into cubes and add my breastmilk/formula only when I’m about to feed baby.

Ok, so my daughter is at that inbetween age where she doesnt have enough teeth for finger food, but hates baby food. I have a baby food processor, but Ive run out of recipes to try!
We have been just processing what I cook for dinner and she loves it, but not all recipes grind up well in the processor, like chicken, some cuts of pork, etc.
She loves everything except carrots, has no aversion to any spices, and no allergies.
Any recipe suggestions that the whole family can eat and I can grind up for her?
She has a very sensitive gag reflex, and saltine crackers can set it off, which is why Im mostly looking for food I can grind up. She can eat the Gerber Graduates finger foods, but everything else we’ve tried hasnt gone over well.

She should be able to do small amounts of mashed potatoes, anything you can eat that is soft. My son loves vienna susages and those are soft enough to gum or teeth on depending on the age of the child. Anything you can mush is something she will love. Just go slow and ease her into it.

everybody in germany recommends to put 1 teaspoon or so in babyfood (selfcooked, jars…), the doctors, all the babybooks, all the recipes on the internet, all the baby cook books…
reason is so that the fat in the food comes out…which is important for the baby to get all the vitamins he needs, sorry, don’t know how to explain it in a better english.
i asked my pediatritian here in the us, and he said, no its not necessary, it could go back to the lungs. but somehow i know its right what they in germany do and say in this matter. still i don’t do it, because he said i should’t do it.
and i never saw in the recipes for babys here that you put oil (best would be rape oil) in babyfood.
so how do you do it. do you ever use oil??? did you know that oil in babyfood is good for the baby???
thanks

OK 1) before you confuse people in North America Rape Oil is called canola oil.

Hmmm I don’t know about fat in baby food. Fat is important to babies. Especially fat that contains DHA like flax and fish oils. But that is in breast milk.

My take on it is it shouldn’t hurt even if it does nothing and it may be good. I feed my baby table food (as do many other parents) and that is sometimes cooked with oil… Do what you think is right! Obviously watch your baby to see if it is causing a reaction or something but I don’t see a problem.

Can you put up your links about this? I would love to read them… even if I have to read it by translating it. Thanks

My son is just now 7 months and at the 90th percentile in heigth and weight for his age. He’s eating 4 jars of babyfood a day so to save money I decided to make some of his food to hinder the costs. Does anyone have any suggestions for foods that are appropriate and blend well in a food processor? Things like peas and green beans don’t blend well (the skins remain after blending).

Sweet potatoes, apples, mashed bananas, peaches.
According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, beets, turnips, carrots, and collard greens should not be home-prepared. It was found that in some parts of the country, these vegetables contain large amounts of nitrates. Nitrate is a chemical that can cause an unusual type of anemia (low blood count) in young infants. It may be safer to use these foods commercially prepared.

I have no problem giving my son jar food… But I think it could be fun to make some of my own?
He will be 4 months tomorrow and he hasn’t had anything yet. I think we are going to try some cereal this weekend.
But when he is ready to eat some baby food how do you make it? Any special website to use for recipes?

Here is a popular web site www.wholesomebabyfood.com

I steam my veggies first, larger ones like squash, pumpkins and beets, that are a pain to peel I bake in the oven. Then I puree them with a hand held blender, a regular blender works great too, I just hate cleaning that one. Add water as needed to get the consistancy you want-use the water in bottom of steamer, it has vitamins that were cooked off. Then I put the mixture in ice cube trays, cover and freeze over night. Transfer to baggies.
throw them in a bowl and either heat in the microwave, or put bowl in hot water.
Google homemade baby food, you’ll find lots of stuff. Your local library will probably have some great books too. It is really easy to do, and I find I can make a lot of veggies that are not found in jars-kale, beets, pumpkins, rutabaga, etc.
Now my baby is ten mos. and she just eats what we are eating. It encourages us to eat well too. Best of luck.
