I have no problem giving my son jar food… But I think it could be fun to make some of my own?
He will be 4 months tomorrow and he hasn’t had anything yet. I think we are going to try some cereal this weekend.
But when he is ready to eat some baby food how do you make it? Any special website to use for recipes?
Here is a popular web site www.wholesomebabyfood.com
I steam my veggies first, larger ones like squash, pumpkins and beets, that are a pain to peel I bake in the oven. Then I puree them with a hand held blender, a regular blender works great too, I just hate cleaning that one. Add water as needed to get the consistancy you want-use the water in bottom of steamer, it has vitamins that were cooked off. Then I put the mixture in ice cube trays, cover and freeze over night. Transfer to baggies.
throw them in a bowl and either heat in the microwave, or put bowl in hot water.
Google homemade baby food, you’ll find lots of stuff. Your local library will probably have some great books too. It is really easy to do, and I find I can make a lot of veggies that are not found in jars-kale, beets, pumpkins, rutabaga, etc.
Now my baby is ten mos. and she just eats what we are eating. It encourages us to eat well too. Best of luck.

I used this website when I was making his food;

It’s pretty easy! All you basically do is blend/mash foods up.

My mom made my little brothers baby food the basic stuff anyway. She would cook vegetables like carrots, peas, etc. and fruit like apples, bananas (not cooked), etc. and blend them in the blender. After she blended the food we would put it in ice cube trays and freeze them and when it was time for him to eat again she would pop a few cubes in the microwave for 30 seconds or so and feed him. I remember doing this with her and I also did it a little for my son, it was great!

I made pumpkin baby food a few weeks ago. I made it just like you would to make a pie from a fresh pie pumpkin. I cut it in half, and cooked it in a glass bowl in the microwave until it was very soft. Then I scooped it out and put it in the blender until it was the correct consistency. I didn’t add anything to it. Just organic pumpkin! Good luck.

I love the website Noah’s mommy posted. I asked a similar question a while back and she posted the site and i have been browsing it and it is a great site. Very informative.
I’ve been making my own food. My son has only been eating solids for a few weeks, so i haven’t done much…but I think its fun and plan to make as much as I can on my own. I never gave him cereal. Its not a rule to start with it, so i started with fruits. I did bananas first (you’ll notice the site says it is a great first food) and it was so easy to do. I just put the banana in a bowl, and added about an ounce of breast milk to the bowl and mashed it with a dessert fork (they’re smaller and easier to use i think) and just mashed and mashed until it was a good consistency. Then I filled up an ice cube tray and froze what I made. When he eats, I microwave a cube for about ten seconds and he’s ready to go. its super easy, cheaper, and doesn’t take long at all. So far I’ve done bananas, avocados, and apples. I might do sweet potato next.
Good luck and have fun!!!
