Does anyone have any tricks of the trade for making some of my own baby food? What are some good foods to make? My son eats $10 in formula and store bought babyfood a day and I am starting to feel it in my money pocket! Do you add water to some foods to thin them out enough? He is 7 months old but does’t like solid foods yet. i.e. the little desolvable puffs from walmart.
I made my own baby food for months. My son loved english peas. I just threw them in a food processor. I did carrots, sweet potatoes, lima bean, green beans, squash. Just cut the food into pieces and put them in a food processor when the start breaking down if it looks to thick and a little water until it reaches your desired thickness.
How do you make your own babyfood?

The main trick is to buy ton of those small disposible/reusable plastic tupperware, I cant remember who makes mine. Then make a large batch and freeze some. Spend about 1 day every other week just cooking several large batches of things at once. Then freeze and put some in fridge etc. I use the disposible/reusable ones because the are the cheapest way to get a ton of plastic things. If you’ve been saving your baby food jars you may be golden though.
Having veggie purees to sneak into other food is good for your toddlers and older kids too.

dont thin out the food, if hes hungry he needs nutrients not watered down food.
make sure he drinks plenty of water so he (or you) doesnt confuse thirsty with hungry
most people make baby food with their ta-tas LOL

you make baby food like your food but try not to use to many seasonings. Take out baby’s portion and puree it or mush it up with a fork. Then season your family’s food to your likeing. My son ate mostly table foods from 8 months up.
My friend use to puree it and freeze it ice cube trays/

you can make baby food from pretty much anything you eat. The key is to leave out the seasonings such as salt and pepper. Cook the food and prepare it in a mixer/blender. Some items have enough liquid that you wont need to add any but if you do, depending on what it is you can add reduced sodium chicken broth, water or milk.
Veggies:
Broccoli, green beans, peas, carrots, squash, zucchini and such can be prepared by cleaning and boiling WITHOUT salt, drained and pureed add a little broth if too thick you can also add in cooked pasta with any of these veggies and as the child gets older you can add in meats such as chicken fish etc and progressively get thicker as he develops
Fruits:
peaches, pears, apples, bananas, figs etc… if fresh bring to a boil with a LITTLE bit of granulated sugar until soft puree with a little milk or formula until smooth and creamy

Just boil (well steaming is better) some veggies (carrots for example) then add just a little water and puree it in a food processor.

There’s no real trick to it, just blend blend blend until it’s the thickness you want…add a little water (nursery water) if you want thinner. And you can do that with pretty much any fruit or vegetable. But take it from someone who knows
making your own baby food can get pretty expensive also, not to mention you have to put the extra effort into buying, making, and storing correctly. Also if you aren’t careful about the amounts of the make it yourself stuff your lil one could balloon up. You just gotta try it and see what works out best for you personally.
I ended up going with the baby cereals, just add a little bit of baby cereal to his formula (you’ll have to cut the nipple a little bit so the thicker stuff can get through). I started with just a teaspoon or so of cereal in the formula, and gradually increased it a little more every feeding until I found the amount he liked the best. His bottles filled him up more and he didn’t scarf down quite so much jar food. And as far as solids go…I did cheerios because the puffs and wagonwheels etc. are ridiculously expensive. Put a few cheerios in his tray when he’s in his walker/high chair and just wait it out. One day he will get curious and try one. Just keep an eye that he doesn’t choke.

I used to make my own baby food. I would just buy the fresh fruits or vegetables, boil them until they were soft, and them put them in the food processor and blend them up. Dont add water.
HERE’S THEY KEY – once you have food processed the food, pour it into ice cube trays. Freeze the trays, and then pop out the little cubes and put them in ziploc freezer bags in the freezer. When its time to eat, take out as many cubes as you want and defrost them!
