How long should a newborn baby be kept away from people with sickness bug?
There is a sickness bug that has hit many family and friends and we were told that it is safe to be around them after 48 hrs of the last person in a household getting it. But, how true is this? I am being induced tomorrow as i am 12 days overdue and am worried about the baby! I have stayed away from all family and friends with the sickness but i have been in contact with the ones who didnt have it but could possibly have caught it.

I highly recommend breast feeding the baby to help prevent the baby from getting sick. As far as keeping sick-os away from baby, I say 48-72 hrs is good. Make sure everyone is washing their hands before holding your lil one. Congrats!

The baby will have your anti-bodies, and if you breast feed the baby will get even more immunities from the colostrum (even if you plan on bottle feeding, consider expressing off some colostrum and syringing it to the baby). If I am not well, I tend to not get too close to new babies for the mothers peace of mind – hopefully your family will do the same. Good Luck

I believe it’s supposed to be safe 48 hours after recieving antiobiotics – otherwise, it depends on what illness it is.

If any of your friends or family are still feeling ill, I would NOT let them visit in the hospital. Then, I would make them wait until the baby is a little bit older (say 2wks) until they come over! Don’t take any chances, we’re talking about a brand new little one!

After you had the baby you might be the one that is weak and might get a virus if someone for example as a cold they should know better not visit , at time you find that some people ignore the fact the they could spread disease if sick , so make sure that if they have colds to wait until they are over it before visiting you . Since you are going to the hospital ask your nurse or your doctor about it ,they are more qualified to answer questions of any matter.

I had surgery a long time ago, and my aunt came to pay me a visit after I was dismissed from the hospital ,you can guess ! yes she had a very bad cold! and the week after I had to be re-admitted to the hospital because of it!

Now I really don’t care if I hurt anyone feeling ! I tell them" If you are sick stay home ! I will see you when you are well!"

Remember that when we are weak so is our immune system!

Completely understand your problem! It’s a common problem in winter when flu is going around as well. Do what you have been doing and ask people to wait about 4 days (not 2) after the last person in the household has been sick to be sure they are clear of active virus.

I would say that you should wait at least 3 months to let the baby build up some immunity. If you can keep the child away from a lot of people until he is 6 months, that may not guarantee that he will not catch something from someone who is ill, but it will give him a better chance of being able to fight it off.

You can usually catch a bug, when people have a fever or chills.
