What alternative to instituting whole milk for baby at 1 year old?

What alternative to instituting whole milk for baby at 1 year old? Mom stopped producing breast milk at 6 months. Baby is now taking ‘Enfamil Next Step Lipil’ formula every four hours during day. She will be 1 next month. Been reading the adverse effects of giving baby whole cow milk. What is an alternative to whole milk at 1 year old?

Thanks in advance.

You should speak with the pediatrician about your concerns and any alternatives.

‘adverse effects of giving baby whole cow milk’? i thought thats what is recommended? by both wic and my pediatrician. i would think the only reason for needing to introduce something else would be due to allergy or something like that. you really should talk to your doctor and see what they recommend.

soy milk. but you may need to give the baby vitamins. i would ask the pediatrician first. But keep in mind your parents and our parents gave us whole milk and we are fine.

whole milk isn’t "needed" if the child has a well balanced diet…As long as she is getting 4 servings of dairy or other source of calcium a day she will be fine..

I’ll tell you what I did. I had a child who was underweight. He seemed to run all his calories off. So, we decided to use one of the toddler formulas for awhile. However, if the child is eating solid food three to five meals a day, there should be no need for anything other than whole milk to satisfy nutrition. However, once in awhile, kids do not get enough iron. The formula will provide that as well.
Oddly, however, if you child is on a milk based formula now, it’s receiving some cows milk products already!
