What did your newborn baby wear home from the hospital?

I am having my baby of undetermined gender in less than 2 months (end of April- should be spring weather). What should I bring to the hospital for it to wear home? Did you have an outfit picked out for your newborn? What if it’s much smaller/larger than anticipated?

I did. I brought him home in a little sleeper. it was a newborn size and still too big and baggy but we still put it on him and he wore it home.

you could do a white outfit. it’s gender neutral and it’ll look so cute for pictures, plus that’s the one time your baby will wear white and not get it messy…a little sleeper or some pants and a shirt will be fine for that. bring a light blanket and a heavy blanket and dress baby according to the weather — whatever you’re comfortable wearing plus another light layer is plenty.

I’m in NZ so not sure how the sizes work with yours.

000 is 0-3 month – this is big on most babies
0000 is newborn – this was big on my son
00000 is prem – perfect fit for my 6lb 8oz son.

Take in a couple of different sized stretch and grows – a 0000 and a 000. The easiest thing to dress new borns in are stretch and grows and nighties. Honestly, you don’t want to be fiddling around with "outfits".

It definitely depends on where you live. We’re from TX and it’s pretty much always hot here… so our boys all came home in cotton sleepers. I had purchased mostly newborn sizes, but also a few 0-3 outfits and brought both to the hospital in case.

I bought a white one piece pajama suit in the typical newborn size. The pajama suits work out good because even if it is a little too large, it doesn’t really matter. I already knew the sex of my babies, but I still chose white to be on the safe side!
Even though it will be at the end of April when you give birth, you still might want to pack a warm jacket and a little hat, mittens, and booties. If you don’t need it, then you can leave it in your suitcase. But it is best to be prepared for all types of weather!
    Good luck!

I brought a few different outfits. In the end he was too small for any of it. Haha, it didn’t matter though, he really couldn’t of cared less what he went home in. I also put a bonnet on him that my granny knit. He looked so funny in it I was worried that I might of done some internal damage to myself from laughing so hard (I had a c section).

My son came home in a skull and crossbones hat, a onsie that said ‘bad to the bone’ jeans and his new boots. All except the hat were way too big on him. I had 4 different outfits to choose from, and that worked for him.

I had a boy in December and I brought a onesie with a matching jacket and pants, socks, mittens, and a hat. I thought he was going to be big so I brought newborn and 0-3 months,he was 7′11 and even the newborn clothes were large! No matter what month it is, i’d still bring something warm, they get cold easy. Maybe some type of a little sleeper with feet built into it and hand mittens? Congrats<3

I have my daughter end of October. I brought her home in a pink sleeper my mom and dad bought for me to bring her home it. It was size 1 month (10lbs) It was a little big on her, but by 2 weeks old she was getting way too big for it. She was never in newborn clothing. She was 8lbs 10oz and 21 inches long and outgrew most 0-3 month things by 7 weeks old.

I would definitely recommend a sleeper and a matching little hat. A soft or organic cotton one will be nice for the Spring and will look nice in photographs.

I brought one coordinating outfit in size N (up to 8 lbs) and one in Size 1 (just in case he was bigger than 8 lbs).

I also brought a couple of extra sleepers, because our hospital allowed the baby to be in our clothes from the moment he was born, so I preferred for him to be in some of our favorite outfits instead of the dull hospital outfits.

Congratulations and good luck to you!
