What happens if you kiss a newborn baby on the mouth with a cold sore?

What happens if you kiss a newborn baby on the mouth with a cold sore?
Will the baby get the cold sore? Should I wash my mouth first?
I happen to have genital herpes.

cold sores and genital herpes are two different things

If you’ve ever had cold sores, don’t kiss your baby on the mouth. And be careful of others, if you’ve ever seen them with cold sores, don’t let them kiss your baby on the mouth. Easier just to make a rule about nobody kissing your baby on the mouth period (or any other mucous membrane for that matter: nose, eyes, ears, etc.). Cold sores IS herpes and for an infant, herpes is deadly. It breaks down their immune system entirely. Soon new moms will be educated about this before they leave the hospital, since it’s so easily prevented with just a little bit of knowledge. I just read a couple days ago about a new mom who lost her little baby girl at 11 days old for this exact same reason, and all she could say was, "If I only would have known". Just imagine. This is not a joke. Spread the word.

If you have a cold sore you shouldn’t kiss a baby as cold sores are highly contagious and pass on the herpes simplex virus which can be dangerous for a newborn as there immune system isn’t strong enough to fight it

yes, the baby can get the cold sore.

please do not. it is very bad for the baby. if you already did, I would go check it out with the doctor just to be on the safe side.

you shouldn’t do that. you might give the baby a cold sore, or there was a very rare case in the news recently about a mother who had just got her 1st coldsore weeks before having her daughter, so the daughter hadn’t had any immunity to the herpes virus passed on, and sadly she died. this is rare, but best not taking the risk

I was told it could be fatal to newborns and baby’s. Wash your hands religiously and do not kiss your baby at all when you even think you are having an outbreak. I am pretty rigorous about my hand washing when I have an outbreak even more so now that I have a baby. Check out this, it has helped me out more than the typical pharmaceutical drug acyclovir.

I really hope you are not being serious because for one you shouldn’t kiss anyone when you have a cold sore let alone a newborn!! That actually happened to my fiance when he was a newborn, his mother let one of his cousins give him a kiss and then she realized the little girl had a cold sore, a few weeks later he was covered in cold sores and has had them come and go his whole life because of that! Please keep your mouth to your self if you have a cold sore.

you could pass it on to the baby. I read where a baby died because the infection was too much for the little baby to handle and it spread through his body very fast. It might be very rare but there is always a possibility.
